Local 7 yYear Old Hosts New Kids TV Program To Promote Health And Learning.

[Denver, CO]- The Kitcheneers is a new kids' cooking television show that is designed to engage today's youth in an entertaining manner. The recent popularity of cooking shows among kids ages 6-12 has led producer, Todd Gehrke, to use cooking to help young viewers learn about shapes, sizes, colors, food groups, health, sanitation, the origin of foods, math, measurements, quantities, and other pertinent life skills oriented around the daily rituals in the kitchen.

Hosted by 7-year-old McKenna, The Kitcheneers makes cooking fun. McKenna provides recipes, shopping lists, safety hints, and guides her viewers through every step of preparing healthy, delicious dishes-assisted by Mom or another adult cooking buddy.

The Kitcheneers is produced locally and supported by local Denver-area businesses. Episodes have been filmed with cooperation from King Soopers and Sunflower Farmer's Market.

There are many ways The Kitcheneers can benefit today's youth:

According to The American Academy of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry, "Unhealthy weight gain due to poor diet and lack of exercise is responsible for over 300,000 deaths each year. The annual cost to society for obesity is estimated at nearly $100 billion. Overweight children are much more likely to become overweight adults unless they adopt and maintain healthier patterns of eating and exercise

The Kitcheneers
encourages healthy eating habits, discusses nutrition and chooses healthy alternatives its in recipes.

When 1,500 school children in a national study were asked what they thought made a happy family, they didn't list things like money or cars-their number-one answer was doing things together. Children want parents to show interest in their activities, do things with them, and talk with them. (Southern Kings Consolidated School)

"Children are our gold and families are our most valuable cultural resource. Yet we are not trained for the job of family making. No course is offered that teaches us how to bring families closer together." -Dr. Susan Smith Kuczmarski

Not only is nutrition often better for everyone (When families eat together), particularly children, in shared meals, but the family bond is strengthened. Family meals are more than simply eating together - they are about communicating, sharing with one another. -Dayle Hayes in the Billings Gazette

The Kitcheneers
offers families opportunities to share in fun, engaging cooking activities using simple recipe ideas.

According to the United Way, "One out of four students in Colorado high schools did not graduate in 2007. Drop out rates in the Denver Public School system were 50 percent in 2006.

The Kitcheneers engages youth in learning and education that is active, engaging and entertaining!
