Targeting fun at Shooting Sports Day Camp
Contributed by: Melody Jones on 9/17/2008

Targeting hands-on fun and education, children ages 8 to 17 years old are invited to a Shooting Sports Day Camp on Saturday, October 11.

Located at the Highlands Ranch Law Enforcement Range, this event costs $5.00 per child and participants can choose one of three class times: 10:00 - 11:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., or 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Parents or guardians must accompany children.

Co-sponsored by the Douglas County 4-H Foundation, the Douglas County 4-H Program and the CSU Extension Service, this interactive event is designed to introduce families to the fastest growing 4-H project in Douglas County. In shooting sports, 4-H kids can choose to learn about archery, shotgun, .22 rifle, air pistol, air rifle, and muzzleloading.

"Shooting sports has grown in popularity and is now one of our biggest projects in 4-H," stated 4-H Outreach Agent Mary Baldwin. "Our shooting sports program endeavors to promote the highest standards of safety, sportsmanship, and ethical behavior. We also strive to strengthen families through participation in lifelong recreational activities."

As with all 4-H projects, the focus is to promote decision making, teamwork, self-discipline, self-confidence and problem solving.

To register for the day camp and to get directions to the shooting range, please call the Douglas County 4-H Office at 720-733-6940 by October 1.

4-H is a community of young people across America who are learning leadership, citizenship and life skills. To learn more about 4-H in Douglas County, please go to the website at www.douglascountyextension.org and view the new blog at http://www.dc4-h.blogspot.com. New enrollments begin October 1.
