PARKER UNITED METHODIST CHURCH
TO OFFER IMPORTANT ELDER CARE SEMINAR
Today, 30 million households, or one out of five Americans, are providing care for an adult over the age of 50. For many Americans, life at 40, 50 or even 60 years old will include care for an aging parent or relative. As the nation grows older, the need for elder care will be as common as the need for child care.
Parker United Methodist Church is offering "You are not alone." Caring for Your Aging Parent," a free two-hour community seminar on the basics of planning and caring for an older adult and on where caregivers can go to find others to help them.
Some of the topics covered in the seminar will include: "Assessing When Mom and Dad Really need help," "Knowing your options," "Finding the right place," "Health, Medical," "Safety Issues," "How to Pay for Everything." "Legal Issues," "Long Distance Care giving," and "End of Life Decisions."
Attendees will receive, at no cost, copies of the 288-page 2008 edition of the South Metro Denver Seniors Resource Guide (The Senior Blue Book). Guests will also receive elder care information handouts and a directory to Local County, state and national elder care organizations, agencies, resources.
Chris Reifenrath and Gordon Wolfe, geriatric care managers from Human Networks Systems, have almost fifty years combined experience in helping seniors, disabled adults and families deal with geriatric and adult care and related service issues. Their Denver based firm provides individualized, professional care management, counseling, planning, financial management, guardianship and long distance care giving services to families in the metropolitan Denver, Front Range Colorado, and the Rocky Mountain Region.
The "Caring for Your Aging Parent" seminar will be held from 7:00 to 9:00pm, Thursday, October 2, 2008 at the Parker United Methodist Church, 11805 South Pine Drive, Parker, CO, (303) 871-3979. Website: www.parkerumc.org Please R.S.V.P by Thursday, September 25th, if free on-site child or elder care services are needed. Light refreshments will be provided to all.

What a great idea! The geatrification of our society has serious consequences, with many adult children of senile parents failing to investigate the early warning signs of problems, and not moving forward with a responsible plan of action. I have seen many cases where aging has brought on problems like chronic hoarding where liens filed against the property destroy the assets - all because family members find it "difficult" to do the right thing. Your parents planned to take good care of you, planning to take care of them when they can no longer care for themselves are the actions of loving, caring, and responsible family members. When you can get this type of quality legal, medical, and emotional counseling for free - in one place, wow! I would also recommend a good article, “My Mother’s Case of ‘Pleasant Dementia’” By Sara Davidson | NEWSWEEK Published Sep 13, 2008 http://www.newsweek.com/id/158757

It's important for those caring for their aging parents to be informed about unlawful and abusive guardianships. Guardianship was designed to "guard" the vulnerable person, "conserve" his/her assets, and "protect" the public from the Ward becoming a public charge. Instead, unscrupulous guardians and attorneys are getting rich at the expense and detriment of the very people they have been court-appointed to protect! Visit NASGA (National Association to STOP Guardian Abuse) at www.StopGuardianAbuse.org and read victims' stories for yourself. Forewarned is forearmed! Yours, Elaine Renoire NASGA
