A gymnasiumfull of Dads and their little girls enjoyed a special "date night" at Parker Recreation's Daddy Daughter Holiday Ball on Saturday night (Dec. 2). The dolled up young ladies and their handsome escorts had their portraits taken, made crafts, and danced the night away.
The girls, ages three to 12, were dressed in their holiday finery. Sequins, ribbons, glitter, maribou feathers, faux fur and fancy hairdos were paraded around the dance floor. "This is one of my favorite events each season," says recreation registration coordinator
Sarah Crawford
, "I always volunteer to work so I can see the kids in their fancy dresses. You can tell they're really excited to be at the dance with their dads."
The action was nonstop, with the girls keeping their dads moving and grooving out on the dance floor. The dads also got to work with their daughers to create snowman bracelets and snowflake ornaments. The dads were good sports about the projects, with several joking, "We'll have to get mommy to fix this once we get home."
The recreation department offers Daddy Daughter Dances a couple of times per year, changing up the months so they can varythe theme. The next dance is scheduled for March 10, and participants may register by calling the Recreation Department at 303-841-4500. "We had such a waitlist for the Holiday Ball that we scheduled a Spring Dance," says Parker Recreation's youth coordinator Diane Lange, "We rolled over all the girls who couldn't attend tonight's event because of space limitations into the next event so they wouldn't miss out." Because the Spring Dance was just added last week, it is not listed in the Winter-Spring recreation brochure. If you are interested in attending, you must call the Recreation Center.
