Help your forests: Buy a native tree at Danny's
Contributed by: Colorado Forest Products on 12/7/2006

For more than a quarter century, Danny Sanchez has been selling Christmas trees that come from Colorado forest restoration projects. The forestry, he said, is the most fun part of his job.

"I just love working with trees," said Sanchez, owner of Danny's Christmas Tree Lot at the intersection of Longs Way and S. Dransfeldt Road in Parker. Sanchez does nursery work full time, but said he enjoys working to help manage Colorado forests most of all.

Management of overgrown forests, both on public and private lands, often requires cutting smaller trees. Before fire suppression, these smaller trees may have been routinely eliminated in brushfires. However, in an overgrown forest they often deprive larger trees of important nutrients and water, as well as providing a ladder for fire to climb high into the branches of other trees.

"It takes you to the best parts of the state," said Sanchez, whose lot features coveted native trees such as white and balsam firs. "And you know what you are doing is for the good of the forest."
