Help children in need this Christmas

Please remember children in need this Christmas -- donate toys to The Denver Santa Claus Shop.

The huge citywide toy drive is taking place at 70 area King Soopers' stores -- including the Arapahoe Crossings location -- provide collection boxes for toy drop-offs. New and gently used toys for children ages newborn to 11 years will be accepted at the grocery stores through Monday, December 17.

For 77 years, the volunteer-run, nonprofit Denver Santa Claus Shop has collected and distributed free toys to area children who might not otherwise have a toy to open at Christmas. It serves more local disadvantaged children each December than any other holiday toy drive, and will help 14,000 needy children this year.

The Denver Santa Claus Shop asks for classic types of toys -- dolls, cars, trucks, books, balls, games, etc. -- whose timeless appeal still delights children. Infant and toddler toys are especially needed. (No battery-operated, electronic or violent toys, please.)

The Denver Santa Claus Shop is unlike other organizations because...
Huge toy stores are set up each year
Families are referred to The Shop by social service agencies
Parents shop and choose toys for their children
Thousands of children receive toys each year -- nearly 14,000 in 2006
All donated toys stay in Colorado
It has a 77-year-old successful track record of helping needy children.
