Thanksgiving dinners sought for those in need
Contributed by: Susan Cormier on 10/26/2006

In an effort to make the Thanksgiving holiday a little brighter for about 185 families in need, the Parker Task Force Food Bank is asking for your help.

The Parker Task Force Food Bank (PTF) is seeking donations so that it can provide special holiday meals and food baskets for an estimated 185 families this year - up from 125 families in 2005 and 86 families in 2004.

Contributions may be tax-deductible monetary donations that will be used to purchase prepared Thanksgiving dinners from local grocery store deli departments. A $40 donation will feed a family of four to six people.

Checks made payable to the Parker Task Force can be mailed to the attention of Diane Roth, Parker Task Force, 20118 E. Mainstreet Unit D, Parker, CO 80138. Any extra unused monetary donations will be put toward the Christmas Holiday Bonus for food bank clients.

If you would prefer, the food bank also needs donations of "food baskets" so families can prepare their own meals at home. Food baskets should feed a family of four to six people and contain Thanksgiving dinner items, such as a turkey, butter, frozen pie, vegetables, sweet potatoes, stuffing, dinner rolls, a can of cranberry sauce and salad fixings.

These baskets (or boxes) can be dropped off at the conference room in the Parker Task Force building at 20118 E. Mainstreet between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 19.

If you would like more information about the Thanksgiving efforts, you may contact Diane Roth at 303-840-0661 or DianeR@parkertaskforce.org, or Susie Morrison at 303-683-3364 or suz.morrison@comcast.net.

The special Thanksgiving dinners are just one of the services provided by the Parker Food Bank, a non-profit organization operated solely by dedicated volunteers.

The PTF provides short-term support to those in need throughout the Parker, Elizabeth, and Franktown communities. The PTF includes an extensive Job Board, which lists local job and training opportunities, and a Resource Board covering issues such as health and dental insurance.
