Now is the time to think about planting trees for spring. If you are a Colorado landowner of two or more acres, you are eligible to participate in the Seedling Tree Program. High quality trees and shrubs suitable for Colorado growing conditions are offered at a discounted price to those who qualify. Trees are sold in lots of 50 for bare root trees and lots of 30 for regular and small potted trees. These trees are to be used for conservation purposes such as windbreaks, wildlife habitat, reforestation, erosion control, living snow fences, and outdoor living barns.
The Seedling Tree program in Douglas County is the main fundraiser for the 4-H Youth Council. The money earned sponsors many activities, allows 4-H'ers to attend state and national camps, and provides scholarships to Douglas County youth.
Applications for the Seedling Tree Program are available from the Douglas County Extension Office. Please call 720-733-6940 or email mjones@douglas.co.us to request an order form. Completed order forms must be accompanied by full payment and returned to the Extension Office by Friday, March 5, 2008. Many species sell out quickly so it's best to get your order in as soon as possible to ensure your selection.
Seedling tree orders will be available for pickup in April. Dates and times are indicated on the order form, and a reminder card will be sent to all purchasers two weeks prior. The pickup site will be at the Douglas County Fairgrounds. Don't miss out on these high quality trees and your chance to support the youth involved in Douglas County 4-H!
