Local grandfather surprised with award

12-year Parker resident Arthur Emerson was recently honored by the Colorado Safety Association as their 2006 Volunteer of the Year. The award was presented to him at the association's annual meeting last Friday and read, "...with grateful appreciation for your enthusiastic support of our mission and promotion of safety throughout Colorado."

"I was speechless when my name was announced," Emerson said. He was so surprised that he didn't even make an acceptance speech when he went up on stage to receive the award! "I couldn't say anything but thank you," he admitted.

Emerson's family gathered for a celebratory dinner the next night, and they all insisted he bring the award so they could pass it around the table. Emerson's family -- and especially his granddaughter, Kendall -- all agrees that they were proud of him before the award, and were very happy to see his professional peers recognize his excellence, as well!
