Ponderosa student earns Eagle Scout award

Garrett Ivan Butler, 16 the son of Rhett and Cathy Butler, will receive the Eagle Scout Award in a Court of Honor ceremony September 28th at Southeast Christian Church, Parker, Colorado.

Butler is a member of Boy Scout Troop No. 280, chartered by Southeast Christian Church.

Garrett has earned 32 merit badges while working toward the Eagle Award. His eagle project consisted of planning and planting a foraging garden at The Gabriel Foundation, an avian rescue facility in Elizabeth, CO.

Butler began Scouting in 1999 as a Tiger Cub with Pack 250 in Topeka, Kansas. He earned his Arrow of Light as a member of Pack 280 at Southeast Christian Church in Parker, Colorado. He joined Troop 280 in November of 2003 and has served the troop in various leadership positions. He has participated in many Scout activities, including a canoe trip to Green River, Utah and hiking trips to the Wind River Range in Wyoming and Zion/ Bryce Canyons in Utah and several summer camps at Peaceful Valley Scout Ranch.

Butler recently served as a medalist escort for the Congressional Medal of Honor Convention Ceremony at the Pepsi Center in Denver.

Garrett is a sophomore at Ponderosa High School, where he is on the honor roll and a member of the Football and Lacrosse teams.
