Opening Day baby turns one month
On 5/2/2007
Contributed by: Ted Hartnett on 4/28/2007

I can't believe it, my little princess will be one month Wednesday. Abigail's final journey into our lives began early April 2, 2007.

I thought the second time around I would be a little more level headed, however, the driveto St. Josephs downtown duringMonday morning rush hour was a bit challenging.

After my beautiful wife put her make-up on and earrings, I got permission to put big sis into her child seat and start the adventure to the hospital. Thank goodness for female serenity.

During the drive my wife, the beautiul mom to be, was as calm as cucumber. I, on the other hand, was the one a tad bit excited.

We safely arrived and was greeted by the nurse who verified it was a go for the baby that day!

Grammy and Pappy arrived at the hospital to take care of Taylor, our two year old. The nurse closely monitored Lisa and encouraged me to get a bite to eat before the baby arrived.

Grammy, Pappy, Taylor and myselfwent across the street to eat breakfast. We returned about forty-five minutes later to Lisa who was beginning to have a leg cramp.

Little did we know, that leg cramp turned out to be the beginning of the birth of Abigail Elsie Hartnett. The medical staff rushed in and delivered our new joy in less than four minutes. Lisa was so brave and strong the medical staff encouraged her not to push so hard and to relax.

Approximately at 12:19 PM our new baby daughter was delivered. Shortly after this, the fly by for opening day greeted our newfamily by directly flying over Lisa's hospital room.

I have to express my love and thanks to my wife for everything she does as a mother and wife and the patience she has with her husband. I have to give some advice to fathers to be. When you are packing to go to the hospital, don't forget to put some cash in the wallet.

I went to the hospital gift store and purchased a bouquet of flowers for Lisa. During the purchase, I was informed that I could only pay with a specific credit card.

I, unfortunately, did not have this card on me, so I paid with cash. Feeling like a great and proud new father, I returned toLisa's room then only to realize that I spent all of the cash that we had on us.

This meant that I had no money in reserve to pay for my meals for the next day and the parking fees I would have when leaving the hospital. This is where Uncle Eddie and Aunt Shelley save the day!

They brought some cash and love when they visited their new niece. Abigail Elsie Hartnett hascaptured our love over the past month. Her middle name is in honor of Grammy's middle name and Great Grandma's first.

It has been a joy for the family over the past month as each day gets better. We know our love will continue to grow and hope our troubles in the future will be"'Lil ones."

With all of my love I am thankful for Lisa Hartnett, my wife, Taylor Rose Hartnett, my two year old, and Abigail my one month old.

Here's to living life one day at a time.
