Like the ancient, mythological Phoenix bird that lived for 500 years and from whose ashes another Phoenix rose, the Tenth Anniversary of Cruisin' The Coast got underway on Oct. 1. This Mississippi Gulf Coast event was cancelled in 2005 due to Hurricane Katrina, but due to the dedication, perserverance and support of the Miss. Coast workers, the comeback was phenomenal.
Cruisers from over 30 states and Canada descended early and stayed late for the 8-day event. Likened to Hot August Nights in Reno, Nev., Cruisin' the Coast has grown from 500 registered vehicles to over 5,000.
Over 60 percent of the Classic, Antique, and Hot Rod owners lost their homes as well as their prized vehicles. They have worked hard to restore normalcy to their lives, secure their jobs, re-build their homes and restore or replace their cars.
We have not replaced our 1968 Mustang yet, but it did not deter our participation. My husband,
Tony
, is a 30-year member of the Mississippi Antique Auto and Engine Club, a Charter member of Cruisin' the Coast, a former President of the AAECMS, and serves on the registration committee for Cruisin' as well as numerous other duties.
Over the past weeks, we have driven 4,000 miles and I have taken over 1,000 pictures. Here's hoping you will enjoy Crusin' 2006. I took the Sept. 28 issue of the Parker
YourHub.com
along for documentation and had tons of fun.
