Reita Leonard Retires from Parker Fire District

Since she came to Parker Fire in August 1984, Reita has held countless interviews, and hired as many as 108 people during her tenure as Human Resources Director. Reita started with Parker Fire District as a secretary for then Chief Duncan Wilke when the fire department’s headquarters was at Station 71, but gradually began to take on Human Resources activities. She became an administrative assistant in 1989, executive assistant in 1996 and was promoted to Human Resources Director in 1998. She graduated from Columbia College in 1998 with a Bachelor of Science in Business. During her time at Parker Fire District, she has contributed greatly to fashioning a solid benefit package and fair market salaries to keep the district competitive in recruiting the best employees. She is responsible for the development of the Colorado State Fire Chiefs Association’s Wage & Benefit Survey that is now prepared by the Mountain States Employers Council and is used by more than 45 fire districts in the state. Reita was born and raised in Paonia, Colo., and went to school there through her freshman year of high school. She graduated from high school in Grand Junction, Colo. She has been married to her husband Dennis for 36 years and they have two children and five grandchildren. Reita and her husband will be moving to Wasilla, Alaska to be near their children and grandchildren. Her last day working for the district will be July 15.
