After 14 years as Mountain View Elementary's librarian, Claire Shadow is moving to Houston, Texas at the end of this school year.
As she says, students from her first year at Mountain View are now graduating from college!
When asked by students if she will work as a school librarian i n Houston, she replied, "Well, I've already had the best students......".
Mrs. Shadow's emphasis at this K-3 school has been on promoting a love of reading in her young students. She's fostered a library that is inviting and has something to interest each of the 635+ students she teaches each week.
In her free time, Mrs. Shadow has been known to surf the internet so that she can stay up to date on the news that interests her students, such as how their favorite teams are doing.
She has provided an oasis in the busy elementary school atmosphere for many children struggling with serious health problems through the years. She has always been available to assist staff and parents in locating resources on a variety of topics.
In addition, Mrs. Shadow has significantly improved the library's resources each year, by consistently running one of the most profitable Scholastic book fairs in
Colorado.
A long time colleague and Mountain View teacher, Bess Minor said "Claire Shadow is the best media specialist and one of the most caring individuals I've ever had the pleasure of working with. She supports students, staff, and families in every way she can, in school activities and in their personal lives. I can't count the number of students who were going through difficult times, that Claire helped by being a listener, advocate, and friend. The Mountain View community has been very fortunate to have Claire and we will miss her tremendously."
Her sentiments are echoed by our entire community, best wishes for all you have before you Claire!
