Douglas County Sheriff
David Weaver
presented one of his Bureau Chiefs with a badge to honor the 24 year commitment that
Mike Coleman
gave to the Sheriff's Office. This badge, which was worn by Coleman, was given to him at a retirement party held in his honor on Feb. 8 at the Eagles Club in Castle Rock.
Bureau Chief Mike Coleman was sworn in as a Deputy Sheriff in 1984, by then Sheriff Steve Zotos. He was on the first SWAT team in 1986. In 1987 he was promoted to Corporal/Detective. In September of 1988 Mike made Sergeant and was transferred back to Patrol. He was very involved in the Explorer Program and served as an advisor for many years. Mike was promoted to Lieutenant in 1993.
He attended the FBI National Academy in 1999 and in 2003 was promoted to Division Chief by then Sheriff
Mike Acree
. In 2005, present Sheriff Weaver made Mike the Bureau Chief in charge of Administration where he remained until his retirement. Mike's plan includes spending a lot of extra time with his wife and two children. His "retirement" won't be long as he will be working in the private business sector.
"Chief Coleman was extremely instrumental in the technology aspect of the Sheriff's Office and his skills and knowledge will be hard to replace. I have worked with him my whole career and while I am excited for his future plans, will miss his expertise and friendship," stated Sheriff Weaver.
