Contributed by: Kristin Hayek on 7/24/2008

Vexed by voice? Paralyzed over plotting? The Castle Rock Writers Conference at Philip S. Miller Library (100 S. Wilcox St., Castle Rock) has something for everyone. The conference will be held Saturday, Sept. 20 from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Margaret Coel and Jim Sheeler will be the featured keynote speakers at this event. Participants will have opportunities to learn from published authors, sample a variety of genres, pitch to an agent, network with other writers, polish writing skills, learn about marketing, and more. Registration for this event is required and the cost for inspiration, instruction, and lunch is $60 before Aug. 20, and $75 after.

Margaret Coel is a New York Times best-selling mystery novelist of the Arapaho Wind River Reservation mysteries featuring attorney Vicky Holden and Father John O'Malley. Some of her works include "The Girl With Braided Hair" and "Eye of the Wolf." She will present in the morning and will also teach a workshop on plotting.

Jim Sheeler is the winner of the 2006 Pulitzer Prize for feature writing and works as the "scholar in residence" at the University of Colorado and as a freelance journalist. He is the author of "Final Salute" and "Stories of Ordinary People Who Led Extraordinary Lives." He will be the afternoon keynote speaker and will conduct two workshop sessions.

Other faculty members include: Mario Acevedo, Kathryn Black, Corinne Joy Brown, Meredith Glynn, Marni Jameson, Ryan Kelly, Joyce Lohse, Todd Mitchell, Carol McAdoo Rehme, Stephen Singular, Irv Sternberg, Sally Stich, Caroline Stutson, Sue Viders, Gail Waldstein, Elizabeth Yarnell, and Mary Taylor Young.

To date, the sponsors of the 2008 Castle Rock Writers Conference include the Douglas County Libraries Foundation, Colorado Community Newspapers, Pure Water, and GoPixel.
