Author Extravaganza a Huge Success
Contributed by: Kristin Hayek on 10/10/2008

The first annual Author Extravaganza presented by Douglas County Libraries was a huge success. The signature event, which highlights writers and their craft, included Getting it Down - A Workshop for Writers, the Castle Rock Writers Conference, and An Evening with Dave Barry.

An Evening with Dave Barry featured an intimate reception with the author, a laughter-packed presentation, and a book signing. More than 500 people attended the event on September 25.

The Castle Rock Writers Conference took place at the Philip S. Miller Library in Castle Rock on September 20 and featured keynote speakers Margaret Coel and Jim Sheeler. 150 future writers attended workshops presented by local authors had an opportunity to pitch to agents.

The programs for Getting it Down - A Workshop for Writers were also very popular. 111 people attended these classes to learn how to get published on the Internet.

Douglas County Libraries would like to thank the sponsors of the 2008 Author Extravaganza: The Gay & Lesbian Fund for Colorado, Colorado Community Newspapers, Tattered Cover Book Store, The Wildlife Experience, Frederic Printing, IREA, Pure Water, Mark Weston and Laurie L. Kornek.
