On May 16, Douglas County detectives arrested a 19-year-old male after he set up a meeting with a 13-year-old female.
Detectives identified the suspect as
Cameron Guzzo
, who is from Castle Rock, but attends school out of state. Guzzo had been sending sexually explicit text messages to the girl.
When Guzzo showed up to meet the victim he was arrested without incident and transported to the Douglas County Detention Facility where he was booked on suspicion of Internet luring of a child, a class 4 felony.
This charge is applicable because text messages are transmitted on an Internet-based network.
Guzzo bonded out on May 19. He is due back in court on June 20.
Due to the nature of the charge and the age of the victim this case is sealed.
If you have information about this case or any other potential victims please contact Detective
Dea Aragon
at 303-814-7131.
Douglas County detectives want to use this incident as a reminder to parents that there are still kids out there who are having online or text message conversations with people who may "act" like their friends but their true intentions are more of a criminal nature.
Even though a computer was not used in this situation, parents and kids need to realize that cell phones can be used to send graphic text messages, set up meets, and send sexually explicit pictures.
The tool is different but the intent of the predator is the same.
"I encourage parents to talk to their kids about proper cell phone usage. Set clear rules about the use and what is appropriate and what isn't. Stick to those rules. Know who is in their "contact" list and periodically check their pictures and messages. Remind them that these things are done to keep them safe", says Sheriff
David Weaver
.
