Public's help sought in burglary, sex assault

Douglas County Sheriff David A. Weaver is asking for the public's help with any information in regards to an incident that occurred early this morning in the Stonegate subdivision.

On July 10 at around 5:08 a.m., dispatch received a report of a burglary that had just occurred at a house on Quarry Hill Drive, within the Stonegate subdivision in unincorporated Douglas County. While enroute, deputies learned that an 8-year-old girl inside the residence had reported that she was woken up by an unknown man who was touching her inappropriately. Detectives believe that the suspect gained entry through an open window. The child described the suspect as a white male, brown hair, about 140-180 pounds.

Deputies were in the area within minutes and searched the area but were unable to locate the suspect. Sheriff Weaver encourages any citizen that may have information about the incident or may have been in the area around that time and may have seen something suspicious, to please call Detective Heather Mykes at 303-660-7563.

Patrol deputies will be in the area conducting increased patrols.

This is still an open and active investigation and no more information will be released at this time.
