Top bull riders from the Professional Team Bull Riders (PTBR) will compete for an estimated $5,000 at the Western Union's Bull Rider's PRO Tour, held during the 90th Douglas County Fair and Rodeo, on Thursday, Aug. 7 at 7:30 p.m. at the Douglas County Fairgrounds, 500 Fairgrounds Dr. in Castle Rock.
This year's event is a "PINK" event, with $1 from every ticket going to Renee's Friends Fund, a Colorado non-profit organization helping breast cancer victims. Everyone is encouraged to wear pink in support of breast cancer awareness, even the bull riders.
The night kicks off with tunes from the Front Range's own Terry Schriner and The Shiloh River Band with their unique country style rock 'n' roll music at 6 p.m. in the Indoor Arena. Later in the evening the band will then sponsor the mutton bustin event where local kids try to stay on a sheep for the longest that they can possibly hold on.
At 7:30 p.m. Western Union presents the Bull Rider's PRO Tour where 30 of the top bull riders in the region work to stay as long as possible on some of the rankest bulls in the world. The top 12 riders from the first round will advance to the Championship Round sponsored by Mountain States Insurance. Riders are not only competing for the cash prize, but also for points toward the Professional Team Bull Riders finals later in the fall. The Fair & Rodeo Board work with five different top rodeo contractors to bring in some of the toughest bulls to make this a challenging competition.
"This event has been a hit since its inception several years ago, and we're proud not only to be a part of this year's 90th Fair celebration, but also to help raise money for Renee's Friends Fund. The popularity of bull riding has become the world's fastest growing and most dangerous sport. With all of the great bucking bull breeding programs today, cowboys are almost guaranteed a chance to place in the money if they can just stay on. This event matches outstanding animal athletes against the top bull riders from the Professional Team Bull Riders. This is just a fun time with lots of entertainment for the whole family!" said Jesse Hill of the Douglas County Fair & Rodeo Board.
Tickets are $12 for adults and $6 for children and can be purchased at the Box Office at the Douglas County Fairgrounds and Events Center beginning Monday, July 28 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tickets can also be purchased at the event.
