Douglas County's country roots are returning on Saturday, Aug. 9 at 9:30 p.m. with country singer Joe Nichols headlining the Douglas County Fair & Rodeo concert. Concert tickets are $20 each and can be purchased online at TicketsWest,
www.ticketswest.com, or at the Douglas County Events Center Box Office, 500 Fairgrounds Dr., now until the event from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The 30-year-old native of Rogers, Ark. recently released his fourth album, "Real Things," with two hit singles so far - "It Ain't no Crime" and "Another Side of You." This album has 13 songs about loss and victory, depression and transcendence, fleetingness and permanence, grit and grace, and love and fighting.
Previous hits include: "Tequila Makes Her Clothes Fall Off," "I'll Wait for You," and "If I Could Only Fly" (a duet with Lee Ann Womack). Nichols has been nominated for four Grammy Awards.
When talking about his music, he said, "Anything I do musically is a reflection of what I am doing personally."
Anyone interested in attending the concert may want to head over to the Fairgrounds by 6:30 p.m. for the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) Rodeo before the concert. Save money by purchasing combination tickets for both events - $30 for ages 15 and up and $25 for 14 and under.
The PRCA rodeo has action packed mutton bustin' classic bareback riding, saddle bronc riding, team roping, steer wrestling, tie down roping, barrel racing and bull riding.
