Free Seniors' Day event Sept. 13
Contributed by: Douglas County on 9/3/2008

Seniors and their families are invited to bring their inquiring minds to the 14th Seniors' Day in Douglas County on Saturday, Sept. 13 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Cherry Hills Community Church, 3900 Grace Blvd. in Highlands Ranch. This free event will have approximately 80 different vendors present to answer a variety of questions in regards to health care options, assisted living facilities, senior centers, library information, clubs, programs and so much more, in one convenient location.

Two workshops will be offered this year - Play it Safe at 9:30 a.m. and Therapeutic Lifestyle Change (TLC) for Seniors at 11 a.m. Play it Safe is a workshop presented by the District Attorney's Office to help seniors recognize potential fraud possibilities. TLC for Seniors, presented by the Clinix Healing Center, will discuss the four top chronic diseases that affect seniors.

Seniors can take a break for live entertainment by musician/vocalist Cliff Spratt and be amazed by Nakata Magic from 10 a.m. to noon.

"Seniors' Day is a great place for seniors to come to one place to find resources and services for all abilities and interests," said Valerie Robson, manager of Adult and Aging Services. "They can ask questions about getting a wheelchair ramp installed at their home, get some legal information on how to update or write a will and even adopt a pet. The event offers valuable resources from vendors that we invite to attend because we receive questions on a daily basis from seniors who are curious about their programs and services."

The Seniors' Council of Douglas County launched the first Seniors' Day event in 1993 as a small information fair that was part of the Douglas County Fair and Rodeo. Since its inaugural year, this event has grown into a bi-annual event featuring informational exhibits, workshops, entertainment and fun.

Major sponsors of this year's event include: Beth Nehama Hospice, Clinix Healing Center, Douglas County Government, Douglas County Libraries, Douglas County Sheriff's Office and Life Care Centers of America. Event sponsors include: the Denver Regional Council of Governments (DRCOG), MacKenzie Place and Wells Fargo Home Mortgage.
