Rec center hopes to keep seniors active

Parker seniors laced up their sneakers and enjoyed a walk in the crisp autumn air during the inaugural Senior Stroll in O'Brien Park last week.

The event was designed to promote awareness of the senior programs offered by the Parker Recreation Department, said Courtney Fay, fitness and wellness intern and event organizer.

"We wanted to get the seniors in the community out and active and socialize a little bit," she said.

Parker Rec has classes geared toward seniors such as Golden Yoga and Stay 'N Balance.

In addition, a new 50-plus health and wellness series offers free seminars on prevention and treatment of common ailments, Fay said.

The next seminar, "Common Knee Problems and Treatments," will be at 6 p.m. Nov 4 at the Parker Recreation Center. For more information, call 303-841-0353.
