The Mountain Pine Woman's Club is gearing up for its annual holiday bazaar to raise funds to help local students with scholarships and GED tests.
"One of our main goals is to further education," said club member Mary Ann Chapman.
Last year, the club awarded two $2,500 scholarships to girls from DC Oakes, Douglas County's alternative high school.
"We have been a club since 1985 and have always given college scholarships to high school seniors," Chapman said. "Now we are concentrating on those students with a B average, realizing that the top students get most of the scholarships."
The scholarships for 2010 grads will be open to Chaparral and Ponderosa students.
The club also helps fund GED tests, realizing that the test's $60 price tag might be hard for some students to afford.
The club's Ye Olde Yuletide Bazaar will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 14 at the Parker Fieldhouse. Admission is free.
In addition to scholarships, proceeds from the event will benefit the Parker Task Force and the Women's Crisis Center.
