Parker Dictionary Project
There are 15 elementary schools in Parker and about 1350 3rdgraders! WOW!
Last year we delivered 150 dictionaries to one school - Mountain View Elementary in the Pinery. Principal Nancy Wortman expressed gratitude and appreciation when I called her this year for another round of dictionaries. So we wanted to expand our impact this year and we added Gold Rush Elementary to our list. Two down and only 13 more schools to go. So this month we handed out 85 dictionaries at Gold Rush and 150 at Mountain View and an unexpected plus, 16 at DC Support Center. Kyle Mediger, Kevin Hausmann, Win Pendleton and Pat Dannenberg helped me at Gold Rush and Amy Holland helped at Mountain View. All are members of the Cherry Creek Valley Rotary Club of Parker. The kids were very excited to get their very own dictionary. We also gave 100 composition books to Mountain View for their Science Lab journals, even the kindergarten class writes up experiments. Again Principal Wortman was extremely appreciative of CCV Rotary.
I showed the kids the Rotary wheel (on the inside cover) and we talked about service (one student looked up the word). I told them we help people in the community and even in Malawi, Africa. It took them a few guesses to zero in on the correct continent for that country. I asked them how they might be of service in their homes and communities, they had great answers. Then we invited them all to come to Trick or Treat on Mainstreet.
