Bonfils needs 4,200 blood donations weekly to meet the needs of the community, and to be prepared for unexpected events. Bonfils Blood Center supplies blood to more than 115 hospitals and healthcare facilities. Blood donation is one of the easiest ways to help your community, with each whole blood donation lasting less than an hour, and having the potential to help several people.
In 2005, Douglas County Libraries hosted sixteen Bonfils blood drives, with an average of twenty-six donations per drive. 410 units of blood were collected, impacting the lives of over 1,230 patients in need. Douglas County Libraries was awarded a Bronze Blood Drive Award of Excellence from America's Blood Centers for the library district's "outstanding commitment to blood donation."
