Stitches of Love benefit Parker Hospital

Aurora, Co., September 28, 2009--The vision to "Serve in September" brought together more than 60 pairs of hands pinning, cutting, stitching and tying blankets for pediatric patients at the Children's Hospital at Parker Adventist Hospital.

Women, from the southeast Aurora-area Relief Society, the women's organization of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, gathered with friends and neighbors September 16 to make the blankets under the sponsorship of the Linus Project. The Linus Project is a national not-for-profit organization which has donated over three million blankets to children who are seriously ill or in need since its inception in Denver in 1995.

While 55 blankets were finished, another 10 will be completed shortly.

Many of the "blanketeers" donated materials for the project. Included among the participants were a dozen teenage women who donated their time and developing-skills to the project . The young women also made five loom-knit baby hats for the hospital's obstetrical unit.

Organizer of the evening's activity, Amy Price, explained, "When I heard about Project Linus, I thought it was a fun opportunity that our women would enjoy and a wonderful way to serve our own community."

The blankets were given to the Linus Project organization for presentation to the hospital.
