Candidate Tina Long answers YourHub.com Q&A

My name: Tina M Long

Age: 42

My family: Sons, Tony and Kenny Long and our dog, Scooter

What I do: Own and operate Parker Day Spa

My favorite place in town to hang out: Depends on who I am with ... with my kids at the Parker Rec Center, with my friends we go to various restaurants in Parker, with my dates, it's a good movie at the 20 Mile Theatre.

What I like most about living here: Small town feel

My interests and hobbies: I love being outside as well as Country dancing and reading. I don't have time to watch TV.

What is my favorite thing to cook: I love to bake sweets for all my friends and neighbors!

People who inspired me (and how): My dad, Charles Gowan, is the most inspirational person to me. I was going to summer school between the eighth and ninth grade (so I could graduate from high school early). My boyfriend, at the time, had an untimely death. It hurt so bad that I wanted to quit summer school. My dad was supportive of whatever decision I made, but told me "When you start something, you should always finish it". I did finish summer school and graduated a year early but have lived my life by a comment my dad made to me when I was 15 years old! "When you start something, you should always finish it". There are a lot of things we need to finish in Parker and I want to help - like roads, parks, trails, open space, and keeping our local businesses successful!

How I have contributed to the community: I am and have been for 5 years a greeter at the Church at Parker aka Pine Drive Baptist. I belong to the Chamber of Commerce and am assisted in the organization of the Business Expo and Taste of Parker. My business gives back to nonprofit organizations and charities in Parker. I believe you should give back to the community where you work live and play.

Also, laser hair removal prices are very expensive. The lasers themselves are normally in the $100,000 area. For women's facial hair removal I only charge $25 a zone (i.e. a lip laser would cost $25 a time and normally 8 times for permanency.) I do this (charge low prices) because giving a woman back her self-esteem is priceless! I don't think only the wealthy should be able to afford something so important!

Also, I bought a brick at the Double Angel Foundation ... (I think I only put my boys' names on it). I am always doing and giving to the community ... it's hard to specify.

What are the biggest issues facingcommunity now: First of all as a woman who owns her own business in Parker I believe we should support economic growth in Parker for both old and new businesses in order to survive. I'm concerned about the growth in ParkerSecond of all, Parker is only 50 percent built out - that means we're only half way there. We have to have smart, "friendly" business planning for the next two decades. I'm concerned about the growth in Parker. Third, and equally important, as a mother, I believe we have to protect our families, kids, and neighborhoods. I'm concerned about growth in Parker. So my issues are: Growth! Growth! and Growth!
