Book closed on library issue -- 'for now'
Contributed by: YourHub.com on 11/6/2007

While some ballots are still trickling in, numbers show Issue 5A, a property tax increase to fund new libraries, to be losing by a hair. Click here to read current results.

At about 10 p.m. election night, Douglas County Libraries Director Jamie LaRue said it has not yet been determined if the election will be close enough for an automatic recount, but it appears the book has been closed on the proposal "for now."

"It looks like the voters have spoken, although they were narrowly divided," LaRue said Tuesday evening.

The issue asked voters to approve a 1.25 mill-levy increase for all Douglas County residents, which breaks down to $9.99 per $100,000 on the assessed value of a home.

In addition to the new Parker library, the mill-levy increase also would fund a new library in Castle Pines, which would open in 2008 or 2009, and a new library in Lone Tree, which would open in 2010, LaRue said.
