Parker teams Battle on the Bayou

The Chaparral Wolverines were unable to defend the championship title in the second annual "Battle on the Bayou" 7-on-7 state passing tournament held Saturday, July 11 at Ponderosa High School.

Jefferson County's Golden High School took the honors as they edged Eaglecrest (Cherry Creek School District) in the championship game.

In addition to the two Parker teams, Colorado Springs had three teams participating, Liberty High School, Palmer Ridge and Cheyenne Mountain High School. Grandview High School, Littleton, and Mullen rounded out the 10 team tournament. It was certainly a festive day of football as parents not only had the chance to watch some great plays on the field but had an opportunity to interact with sports related vendors while eating barbeque, Mexican food and traditional sports fare.

"We've gotten a tremendous amount of positive feedback from all the coaches. They love the organization and competitive nature of the tournament. Having officials and the media here adds a special dimension for not only the players but for all of our sponsors as well. We're looking forward to holding this event as it grows and improves every year," Coach Randy Huff stated (Ponderosa High School Head Coach).

Scores for Ponderosa and Chaparral high schools:

PHS vs. Mullen: 29-20

PHS vs. Cheyenne Mountain: 38-3

PHS vs. Golden: 36-36

PHS vs. Chaparral: 22-31
