Former Chaparral High School runner
Erin Marston helped her University of Colorado Cross Country team earn second place at the Division I NCAA National Cross Country Championships in Terre Haute, Indiana on Nov. 20.
The Lady Buffs were ranked sixth going into the championship meet, but proved their mettle by pulling off a close finish behind the defending champion Stanford team. Sophomore
Jenny Barringer placed second in the 6K race.
Erin, who is the team captain, and her teammates had already won the Big 12 Championship as well as the Mountain Region Championship. Their achievements were all the more impressive given the fact that this is a young team with several freshmen and sophomores.
The CU men's cross country team fared even better, winning the title in their NCAA race. This was the third championship victory for the men since 2001.
Congratulations to all of these hard-working and rarely recognized athletes!
