Castle Pines' Vickers named anchor
Contributed by: Erich Kirshner on 9/11/2007

The Mtn. - MountainWest Sports Network announced recently that broadcasting veteran Natalie Vickers, of Castle Pines, has become its newest anchor, co-anchoring The Mtn.'s broadcasts with Marius Payton while anchor Courtney George is on maternity leave.

"We are fortunate to snag Natalie Vickers for this job," said Kim Carver, the network's general manager and vice president. "Natalie knows sports inside and out and is a great addition to our team."

Vickers has worked for nine years as a sports anchor and reporter. She worked as weekend anchor for the Fox affiliate in New Orleans where she co-hosted various New Orleans Saints specials and weekly wrap-up shows.

Vickers also covered sports in Tampa, including the World Champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers, during her time as a sports reporter for the local CBS affiliate. Vickers also worked in Miami for a USA Network affiliate, WAMI.

"I'm thrilled to join the team of sports broadcast professionals at The Mtn.," said Vickers. "The Mtn. broadcasting team brings depth and insight to the always-exciting Mountain West Conference athletic experience."

Vickers, who grew up in California, doesn't just cover sports -- she gets involved. She worked as a Miami Dolphins cheerleader, played softball for Broward Community College in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, and swam competitively at Elk Grove High school in Elk Grove, California.

Vickers comes from a sports broadcasting family. Her father, Joe Angel, is a 30-year broadcasting veteran who has been nominated for the Baseball Hall of Fame and worked for teams such as the Florida Marlins, San Francisco Giants and New York Yankees. Angel currently is in his fourth year as the radio voice of the Baltimore Orioles.

Vickers is married to entrepreneur Bo Vickers. The couple lives in Castle Pines.

The Mtn., which debuted on the eve of the 2006 collegiate football season, brings viewers MWC athletics across multiple sports. The 2007-2008 schedule includes more than 200 games, along with conference championships and men's and women's Olympic sports.

Fans can also see coaches shows, pre- and post-game analysis and news about conference teams and players.

The MWC is comprised of nine Division I institutions: Air Force Academy, Brigham Young University, Colorado State University, San Diego State University, TCU, UNLV, University of New Mexico, University of Utah and University of Wyoming.

The Mtn. network is jointly owned by Comcast and CSTV. For further information about The Mtn. visit www.themtn.tv
