The Cottonwood Riding Club-home of the Denver Polo Club (
10415 Roxborough Park Road, Littleton, CO)-will host Polo for the Cure to benefit Renee's Friends Fund on Sunday, June 25, 2006. In its inaugural year, the event will begin at 10:00 a.m. with a polo game. Attendees will also have the opportunity to watch a dressage demonstration, participate in a silent auction, and enjoy brunch and mimosas.
"With the success of Dressage for the Cure, we decided to create a polo event to benefit this charity with a great story and a great cause," said
Tara Gandomcar, event coordinator from Cottonwood.
Renee's Friends Fund came about in 2004, when dressage student
Donna Baxter approached the owners of Cottonwood Riding Club where she boarded her horse about a charity event. Donna's dressage trainer,
Renee Coble, had been diagnosed with breast cancer. Donna wanted to hold a charity dressage show to raise money for her instructor.
The money raised for the dressage event helps breast cancer survivors pay for living expenses during cancer treatment, like household costs, food, breast cancer supportive therapies, and related supplies.
"Treatment and medical costs make it difficult to work and meet the expenses of daily living," commented Donna Baxter. "
Renee's Friends Fund fills a niche and raises money to help defray those costs."
In a short time, the organization has brought together the Colorado horse community to offer four signature events: Dressage for the Cure, Polo for the Cure, the Renee's Friends Fund Benefit Bull Ride, and Saddle Up for the Cure-a trail ride in DouglasCounty.
Sponsors for the event are as follows
, Altius Vodka, Cars Collision, Image West Apparel,
The Horse Connection, Stargate,
Today's Horse Trader, and Publication Printers.
