Area golfers are being encouraged to dust off their golf clubs, put on some green, grab a lucky charm and head out to Spring Valley Golf Club for its most popular and entertaining tournament of the year.
Dubbed the St. Patrick's Day Party, this March 15 event is just for fun.
"It's unlike your typical golf tournament," said Justin Cirbo, Spring Valley's head golf professional. "It's just about having a good time and getting back into playing the game in a setting that is fun and not stressful."
Golfers from across the Denver metro area participate in the event because it is just about as quirky as the holiday itself, Cirbo said. The tournament takes the St. Patrick's Day themes of green and a four-leaf clover to a new level.
Players are given a green golf ball that they must use during tournament play. A reward is given to any four-member team that completes the 18 holes with all four green golf balls intact: Four strokes are taken off the overall team score.
But that's not all. Players are only allowed to use four clubs and each team is given four mulligans, or one per player.
To make it even more whimsical, members of each foursome tee off from four different tee boxes on each hole.
The event even includes traditional Irish food, although there will be the normal hot dogs and sandwiches available for those who prefer that type of fare.
The tournament has a 9:44 a.m. shotgun start on Saturday, March 15. The cost is $66.44, which includes greens fees, golf cart, a green golf ball, prize money and lunch. To sign up, call the Spring Valley pro shop at 303-646-4240 prior to March 12.
Spring Valley is located just east of Parker at 42350 County Road 17-21.
