Sue Catterall seeks school board seat

Sue Catterall, Willow Broom Trail, Littleton, has announced her candidacy for a position on the Douglas County School Board. She seeks the seat for District B, a large area covering the western portion of the County, including the Roxborough area, as well as part of Highlands Ranch. Four of the seven seats on the Board of Education are up in the November 3 mail-in election.

Sue has been heavily involved in the local schools over the years. She began as a classroom volunteer at Roxborough Elementary when her twins--now 8th graders at Ranch View--were in preschool. She was elected co-chair of Roxborough's School Advisory Council, the state-mandated accountability committee. She currently serves as Vice Chair on the Ranch View SAC. She also serves on the District Advisory Committee and served in leadership roles in two school budget/bond elections. In 2005, she initiated a grassroots effort to establish the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program at Thunder Ridge High School. The program's first students will begin their IB coursework this fall.

Local resident Sean Burke, who serves on the District's Long-Range Planning Committee, said, "Sue would be a fantastic member of the Douglas County School Board."

Sue outlined her goals as follows: "I am firmly committed to providing the best possible education for all children whether they choose a path to college or vocational (career/tech) options. We have excellent public schools in our district and many of us, incuding our family, moved to Douglas County because of the high reputation of our schools. As a school board member, it will be my goal to uphold our reputation as a county with great schools."

She may be contacted at: sue@catteralldesign.com to be added to her mailing list. Her Web site, suecatterall.com, is currently under construction.
