Hank Eng, candidate for US House District 6, hosted a BBQ and Thank-A-Thon for his supporters on Sun. Oct. 5 th, exactly one month before Nov. 5 th when, he says, "We will have a new dawn and a new government."

As the Democratic candidate in a traditionally Republican district, Hank Eng is running on the hope for change displayed by more than a hundred volunteers, many of whom have never been involved in politics before. Said the one making Hank buttons, "I didn't want to look back on Nov. 5 th and say I should have done more."

"Enough is enough," said Mike of Mighty Mike & the Motivators, the band that donated its time and talent to the event held in the Woodlawn parking lot in Littleton, where the Hank Eng for Congress office is a busy place every day of the week.

Even during the BBQ, there were several volunteers hand-addressing Hank Eng postcards, personalizing them with why-I'm-voting-for-Hank notes. One volunteer writes, "Hank listens to the people and will represent them - not big business."

Another volunteer said, "I first heard Hank at the state convention and was really impressed - I couldn't think of a better person to represent Colorado in Congress."

Several supporters, including candidates Linda Newell (State Senate Dist. 26) and Jim Jackman (County Commissioner), voiced the same theme: Hank Eng is the best candidate we have ever had to replace Tom Tancredo who is retiring.

And Hank has a good chance against his opponent, Mike Coffman. "If we think we can't go blue," said Jackman, "Democrats now outnumber Republicans in Arapahoe County." Just three days before, time.com reported that "t he Republican Party [was only] 4,000 voters away from losing its registration advantage."

As a reminder of the demographic changes, also attending the Thank-A-Thon was State Rep. Joe Rice (Dist. 38), a popular Democrat who is running for re-election this year. And representing the new surge in young people getting involved in politics was AJ Clemmons, candidate for CU Regent.

Young andmiddle-aged alike, the Hank Eng for Congress staff bubbles over with exuberance. "Hank's the best guy I know," said one member. "I trust him to take care of all the issues we're facing." They all talk about Hank in a new video on his website at http://hankeng.com.

What does Hank Eng think of his staff and volunteers? "They are community activists," he said. "They are what America is all about."
