Over 200 skateboarders of all ages, their parents, grandparents and visitors celebrated the official dedication of the Roxborough Village Metropolitan District's new $625,000
Skateboard Park on a sunny October 17th.
Nationally-recognized skateboarder, 12-year-old
Wyatt Milhollan of Chatfield Farms, was the first official skater at the dedication.
The
Roxborough Village Metropolitan District invested $175,000 in the project.
Douglas County provided $250,000 and
GOCO gave $200,000. The construction work was completed by the 53 Corp. and that the skating elements were finished by specialty skate park contractor named Team Pain. Village Metro District President
Steve Sherman thanked everyone who was involved in the planning and construction of the facility. He particularly thanked
Douglas County Manager Douglas DeBord. Sherman said, "Two years ago at a One Roxborough meeting, Doug said he thought the County could help with the project." With Douglas County participation and local support, GOCO made a commitment to the cost of the facility. Sherman said that professionals have said that the new park is the "best skate park in its class."
12-year-old Wyatt Milhollan, a student in the seventh grade at
Ranchview Middle School, is the son of
Susan and David Milhollan. His proud father said, ''Wyatt started skating when he was 2 ½. His older brother Nick got him started and he hasn't stopped since.'' Wyatt has earned a reputation by taking awards at competitions for several years. Recently, he took 5th place at a
National competition in Phoenix-the
Volcom Wild In The Park event. He has had several sponsors, but his Mom said the family could use additional sponsors to help with the travel costs. The Milhollans are on their way to Wyatt's next competition in Minneapolis soon.
