County seeks voice of low-income residents for Board service

The Douglas County Department of Human Services invites a County resident to be the voice for Douglas County's low-income population on the County's Community Services Block Grant (CSBG) Tri-Partite Board.

The purpose of the County's CSBG Tri-Partite Board is to oversee distribution of grant funds for programs and services that address the causes and consequences of poverty, as well as for the revitalization of low-income communities.

"A community board with this purpose can better represent the intended service population for these funds with the voice of the low-income Douglas County family at the table," said Barbara Drake, Director of the Douglas County Human Services Department.

Income guidelines are specific and are associated with the number of individuals in the family compared with the household income as follows: (1 person), $21,660; (2 persons), $29,140; (3 persons) $36,620; (4 persons) $44,100; (5 persons) $51,580; (6 persons) $59,060; (7 persons) $66,540; (8 persons) $74,020.

The CSBG requires that the County Human Services Department appoints the local Tri-Partite Board who represents low-income individuals. This Board is asked to include one-third of its members from elected public officials or their representative, one-third from low-income individuals or their representative, and one-third from the business, religious, law enforcement, or other major group in the community.

The Tri-Partite Board meets intermittently, but generally about once a quarter for approximately 1 ½ hours. The meetings are normally held at the County Human Services Department's Castle Rock location.

If an interested applicant is within the income limits and would like to discuss joining the Tri-Partite Board, please contact Sharon Svendsen, (303) 688-4825 ext 5332, or Valerie Robson, (303) 688-4825 ext 5363 on or before December 1, 2009.

The Douglas County Department of Human Services provides child and adult protection, and assistance with basic living needs.
