Roxborough students improve crosswalk

November 5, 2009

Hi, We are a group of 7 students from Roxborough Elementary that are going to be competing in the First Lego League Competition at the School of Mines later this month.

Our team name is the Mindstorm Masters. The competition stresses teamwork in robotics, engineering, and programming. As part of this years competition we must do a research project on transportation. Our group chose kid power: walking, biking, skating, and scootering.

The more research that we did, the more we knew that we wanted to improve crosswalk safety near our school. We are going to apply for a federal grant called Safe Routes to Schools in order to fund this project.

After much research into crosswalk safety, we have decided to install In-roadway Warning Lights at the crosswalk. Part of our competition is informing our community about our plans. Our competition is on Nov. 21.

Our grant application is due on Dec. 4. With any luck, the crosswalk will soon be safer for Roxborough kids.
