I'm trying to bring some of the more overlooked stuff from the local music scene. I have to balance it against a full-time real job, so I can't be as thorough as I'd like, but hopefully you'll find some of the stuff that Mark Brown and Ricardo Baca don't cover. A quick, but oh-so-necessary plug:

The Urban Citizen Project, a class at UCD, is putting on a benefit concert with some great area bands. Take your pick outta pop, punk, hip-hop, and some classically-leaning experimental rock. Urban Citizen will donate the money from tickets, raffles, etc, at the show to local nonprofit groups. (Four Winds Native American Center looks like the likely candidate.)

Oh, and I said something about drinking, didn't I? I've got it on a reliable source that when Urban Citizen rents out the Gothic, a good deal of it is paid in promised drink revenue. So every dollar you throw down on that demon brew is a dollar the project gets to keep. So really, every drink you don't buy is money you're stealing from charity. Why do you hate charity? Buy me a couple, too, just to be safe.
