Arapahoe Library District (ALD) recognizes the positive impact we can make, especially when it comes to the environment. For that reason, we have been evaluating what we do and looking for every opportunity to become even more environmentally-friendly.
For example, this spring ALD replaced all of our desk-side trash cans with recycling bins to encourage recycling. In July, the Library District will be rolling out new fabric bags throughout all of the libraries, replacing the plastic ones formerly used. These fabric bags will be available for patrons and staff for only $1 each.
In addition, the ALD Green Team recently was created. The goal of the Green Team is to promote "green awareness" among the Library District staff and patrons by providing helpful tips, resources, interesting facts and fun ways to incorporate living "green" into day-to-day activities, both in and outside of the libraries.
Following are a few tips from the Green Team for going green:
· If you don't already recycle, call your waste disposal company to get started, or use local recycling drop-off centers.
· Take cloth bags to the store (or library) or reuse your plastic bags.
· Sign up for paperless billing.
· Walk, carpool, ride your bicycle or take public transportation.
Anyone can go "green." Check out the Green Team's blog at www.greenald.blogspot.com for green tips and to follow ongoing green initiatives at the Library District.
