A place to call home
Contributed by: Christine Bond on 10/19/2006

I am and have been a friend and advocate of St. Vincent's Home for emotionally disturbed children ever since 1937. I came to see the Children and the Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth, Kansas with my mother who saw the great needs of victimized children.

It began as an orphanage in 1883 but since 1969, it became a residential and daycare treatment center for emotionally disturbed boys and girls. Over the years it has helped over 17,750 children from ages 3 to 14. When the Sisters have an annual reunion, many previous graduates come in abundance.

Even holding important positions in our city activities and businesses. Some are proud parents of their great children. Some cry or laugh that they had been so fortunate as they ponder the truly happy memories of their years at the "home that changed their lives." In recent years Mt. St. Vincent has worked with 150 children and their families annually. Today, with new programs and services opened to the general public, those members are expected to rise dramatically.

They never loose sight of their continuous goal of a permanent stable home for each child. I am now 83 years of age, and cannot do as much for the children as in the past, but I deeply love an charish all that I can do to advance the home's benefits today for the progress and good lives of the soon to be adults, that Denver can be proud to have because of Mt. St. Vincent's presence today!
