Luis Alvarez is running for State Senate District 24.
Name:
Luis Alvarez
Age:
35
Family:
Corrie, wife; Phillip and Paul, sons
What I do:
Process analyst at Qwest
My favorite place in town to hang out:
My backyard with friends and family.
What I like most about living here:
The mountains. I love watching a sunrise in the winter when the mountains and foothills are covered in snow.
My interests and hobbies:
I moved to Colorado for the outdoors. I enjoy rock climbing, hiking and camping. I also like to participate in sports. I particularly enjoy roller hockey and wrestling. I wrestled in the 2004 U.S Open, which had been a goal of mine since High School. My wife and I are both ham radio operators. I like playing Xbox with friends.
What I like to cook:
I make a mean smoked brisket. My neighbors always know when there's meat in the smoker.
People who have inspired me (and how):
My great uncle. He was always a perfect gentleman. He wrote several books and in the back of my mind I always want to live up to what I imagine would be his high expectations of honesty, responsibility and ethics.
How have I contributed to the community:
Assistant Wrestling Coach, Hoquiam H.S.
Volunteer Wrestling Coach, Hoquiam Middle School
North Metro Young Republicans, chairman, 2005
Denver Pachyderm Club, Board of Directors, 2005
Adams County Republican National Hispanic Assembly, Board of Directors, 2005
What are the important issues facing the community:
Education, transportation and illegal immigration.
