Biking to work
Contributed by: Travis Henry   on 6/18/2007

June 27 is bike to work day.

I've been on a health kick recently and the idea to ride my bike to work has crossed my mind a few times.

But I live in north Thornton and work in downtown Denver. I'm not even sure how I would get there.

Does anybody in the Thornton area bike to work in Denver? Anybody else in the burbs?

I found this site bikely.com, which is a pretty cool concept, but still has a lot of kinks to be worked out. I'm very familiar with trying to work out kinks on a new site. Anyone tried out our spell check lately? Don't.

O.K., back on subject. If anyone knows of a good way to get to Broadway and Colfax from 136th and Colorado on a bike, leave me a comment below.

That will eliminate one excuse for not trying to ride my bike to work. Then the only excuses left will be:

1.)I'm out of shape,
2.)I'm afraid of a flat tire,
3.) and the only spare tire I have is around my middle.

Thanks, Tabitha. We are always riding our bicycles. Just not to Denver.

Good luck with riding your bike to work, Travis. Are you easing yourself into using a bicycle again? Maybe you and the family can go on bike rides on the weekends and in the evenings ... biking to your grocery store may be good for a few trips. Good for you and safe journeys.

Right, Karin, with your #4. And, may I add #5? I have so much important stuff to do in a day I don't have time to waste on a bike.

So Brendan of Brendan's List fame, actually biked most of the route I would need to take beginning at 104th - complete with pictures to help me on my way. Wednesday won't work because of family commitments, but I plan on tackling the ride in late July or early August. Even Brendan, who is as hardcore as it gets when it comes to biking around town, admits it's not an easy ride to work.

I'm an avid user of public transportation. So for bike to work day, I'll be doing the usual: Bus and light rail. I could try to bike from my apartment in Englewood, but I figure I'm already doing the environment good by not using my car so much.
