On Friday, April 13, I attended a roast of former Thornton Mayor
Noel Busck. Never having attended a roast before, I wasn't sure what to expect.
Boy did we have a great time.
The roast was held at the beautiful
Stonebrook Manor in Thornton and was organized by the Denver Metro North Rotary Foundation. (Full disclosure: I am a member of the
Denver Metro North Rotary Club.)
More than 300 people attended to honor and poke fun at Busck, who now serves on the RTD board.
The roast was hosted by super talented
Jon Chandler, who also happens to have grown up with my father.
Roasters included
Carol Norberg,
Al Ulibarri,
Scott Perriman,
Gene Ciancio,
Ed Delozierand
Ken Fellman. Busck's wife, daughters and grandson also participated in the roast. While there were some good zingers, it was clear Busck has the respect of all that honored him.
The best part of the night for me was hearing old stories about Thornton and Adams County, where I was born and raised. It was also the first night my wife and I ventured out for an entire evening since
Alexander was born. We made a few too many check-in phone calls to the grandparents, but he did great.
Proceeds from the roast will go to the foundation and the Holy Cross church, which is Busck's charity of choice.
In the silent auction, I picked up a signed
Jay Cutler football for $200. It could be a great investment if Cutler lives up to his potential. If not, the money still goes to a worthy cause.
Of course, I want to tell the story of this event YourHub.com style. That means I want to hear from you if you attended. Post a story and photos about the event
here or send me an email at
henryt@yourhub.com telling me your favorite part of the night.
I'll post final numbers of how much was raised and pass along anecdotes as they come in.
Next year we are planning to roast former Denver Bronco and Northglenn mayor
Odell Barry. I can't wait.
