Blog Entry 3 of 5 The No Spin Mom
I wanted a place where parents could share information that they know is correct, without the spin. Parents today are faced with alot of different problems.Working, raising children, dealing with schools,(don't get me started),scheduling parenting and working.A place also where stay at home moms ( like me) can share their views,(yes we do have brains)and help each other and working parents whether they be single moms or dads or 2 parent working households. We all have a stake in the way our children are raised, the way the schools are teaching or not teaching, what's going on in our neighborhoods, what is important for your city, county, state and country. Let's stop tuning out and tuning in to what we want for our children's future. What we want for our families, our friends, our neighborhoods and ourselves. Parenting can be the most rewarding, frustrating, scariest, hardest and blessed thing that has ever happened to parents today. We face more challenges than our parents and their parents before them. I taught Preschool for 15 years and was a nanny for 3 before deciding to start my family.I waited until my husband and I could afford for me to stay home and raise them.I have been married for 25 years this May and with my husband for 29 years.I have 2 children one in 2nd grade and one in 5th.What I want out of life is to raise two great girls into strong women.I have taken care of children all my life. That is what I was put on this earth to do.I have done it well.Children are the best.

It is the best of times and the worst of times.

Today my daughter turns 11. I remember it like yesterday. She was supposed to be born with a tumor on her face, but by some miracle it disappeared when she was born by C-section at Rose Medical Center. All the Doctors, all the specialists and all the nurses waited in anticipation for this little baby with a tumor on her face. It's a long story , so I'll save it for another time.

After she was born I think every nurse and doctor came to see her. The little girl who turned out not to have any mark on her at all. She had the most perfect skin and everyone commented about how she had this glow about her. That was the best of times. Happy birthday, Sarah!

Now the worst of times.Twenty two years ago I started my own preschool and before and after school program. I had lots of kids. I had one group that was a constant. We all just seemed to get along perfectly. The parents were the best. They treated me with kindness and respect.

I had two children -- Karen and Georgie. I'll never forget them because despite all these years and all these miles between us, ( I moved from Maryland 13 years ago) I have stayed a part of their lives. Karen went to college, had a steady boyfriend that she ended up marrying, and now a little baby girl just born last Nov.25th.

One week after Karen's brother Georgie and Kendall's Uncle Georgie got word he was going to Iraq.

I just got an e-mail telling me he was in Iraq awaiting orders yesterday ... I woke up this morning at 4 a.m. I don't know why but he was on my mind. I remember when he asked me, if I wanted to go see the Washington Capitals hockey game with him, he was about 8 years old. His dad had season tickets and he didn't want to go and his mom didn't want to go ,so I said sure. His mom and dad were divorced. They still worked together in the liquor store they owned and were good to each other and their children.

So Georgie comes down to my house (he lived up the street) and off we go. He says I want to take you out to dinner and I said great !,where we goin'. He says Wendy's. So we had a nice dinner at Wendy's. I still remember I had a Taco Salad. We went to the game(cause he couldn't drive) and we had a great time. He said I'll be right back and comes back a few minutes later with a Capitals coffee mug. He says I got this for you. I hugged him and said Georgie you are the sweetest kid I know. Why do you have to have such an attitude problem and walk around with a chip on your shoulder all the time? He just laughed and said I have my moments don't I? We just laughed.

I cleaned out some cabinets the other day and came across the Capitals coffee mug.My daughter said you want to get rid of this? I said ,No!Then I told her about Georgie and where I got that mug.

I e-mailed Georgie yesterday and told him the story of our "date" to the hockey game and how I still have the coffee mug he bought for me that night. I told him I will drink my morning cup of coffee every morning and say a little prayer and raise my cup to him.I will do this every morning until he comes home safe.He was always my bada@@ kid with an attitude and a heart of gold.

In my last sentence to him in the e-mail I sent him I said,

Be safe, Be brave, Be Georgie.

He'll know what I mean. This is the worst of times. I feel like one of my own children is in Iraq.I cry a little today. I laugh a lot for my daughter.
