The politics of YourHub.com
Contributed by: Travis Henry   on 10/9/2006

Things I know: A lesson I learned as both a reporter and as an editorial page editor is that if both the Democrats and Republicans are mad at you, then you are doing something right. I recently received some angry emails and phone calls regarding two of our contributors, Leonard Muniz on the far left and William Prather on the far right.

I'm not really sure why there is the anger from either side. I doubt either Prather or Muniz will change the opinion of anybody. People who tend to agree with them will read their columns and still agree with them. People who disagree with them will read their columns and disagree with them. If the attempt of Muniz or Prather is to provoke angry responses, then they are receiving the responses they desired.

Personally, I'm not a huge fan of using YourHub.com to debate the virtues and/or vices of liberals and conservatives. I'd much rather read about local political races in my community.

Saying that, YourHub.com can be utilized by anyone any way they see fit, whether the views are polarizing or not. All we ask is that contributors stay away from violent, sexual and racist messages.

Things I should have known: I should have know that every newspaper, radio station and television station would have stories last night and today anticipating how possible snow mixed with Monday night football would mean big dollar signs for the ski folks. It's a story every year when the Broncos play on a Monday night and there is a hint of moisture in the air. I'm not saying it isn't a legitimate story. I am just saying that I have heard it before.

Things I don't know: "Is homework a waste of time?" That question is the lede for a story by the Seattle Post-Intelligencer. The story quotes an author that says homework is "worthless." The homework my children bring home is tough and they spend a lot of time on it. I'm not sure if time would be better spent resting their minds. There seems little time to play. However, in this fast-paced, competitive world maybe the extra homework is what they need to succeed. What do you think?

The Broncos are the best, the Raiders suck, sunsets are blue and orange, Bronco fans bleed blue and orange!

The truth is I do have a personal bias in favor of the Denver Broncos. There, it's out! The game was cold, but our defense was on fire. Now if we could just figure out a way to play a game without having Jake throw.

That's it, Travis, you [insert political identifier here] hack! You're going down for your shockingly overt bias!
