Three years ago YourHub.com set out on a mission to help community members tell their own stories.
We hired
a staff, held
community gatherings and adjusted the bells and whistles of our Web site. Our mission was bold: We would launch 40 Web sites and 15 print sections in less than four months. The journey was incredible and we grew fast. The community now helps us produce 47 Web sites and 18 print sections in the Denver area.
Early on, newspapers across the country began to take notice and soon we were syndicating the YourHub.com software and business plan. YourHub.com popped up in places such as
California,
Florida and
Texas. Some of our syndicated partners have had great success. Others, not so much.
Suddenly I was sought out as a guest speaker and adviser for media companies looking for answers in this changing media environment.
My answer when asked about the secret to our success?
Good people.
The staff members of Denver's YourHub.com, combined with
amazing contributors, have fostered a caring, tight-knit community I have been proud to be a part of.
From the beginning we were venturing into new territory, allowing users to shape how the Web sites and print sections would grow. Along the way I made a tremendous amount of new friends.
Denver's YourHub.com community is made up of shoe salesmen, community activists, stay-at-home parents, city officials, public information officers, photographers, senior citizens, business owners, high school students, college students, poets... I could go on.
So it is with a touch of sadness that I bid the YourHub.com community farewell as I move on to another adventure in my life.
This is my last print section as editor of YourHub.com. I have accepted an exciting opportunity with
Examiner.com, helping build a nationwide network of local community news Web sites. Watch for exciting developments there next month.
I leave confident that YourHub.com is in good hands. Managing Editor
Fairlight Baer-Gutierrez has been here from the beginning and will be the new editor of YourHub.com.
She knows what she is doing. The staff remains dedicated in helping people tell their stories and the community is as engaged as ever.
The future is bright for YourHub.com. Why?
Good people.
Thanks. I'll post here every so often as a citizen contributor to let you know what I am up to.
Thanks for letting me be a part of your lives.
Keep up the good fight.
