Mayor Busck honored for development excellence

Adams County Economic Development (ACED) honored Thornton Mayor Noel Busck at a meeting of the City Council on October 10, 2006, for his outstanding participation and leadership on its Executive Committee over the past four years. ACED salutes the Mayor's contribution to the public/private partnership that is critical for economic development success.

The award was presented by ACED Chair, Bob Loew of Robert Loew & Associates, and ACED President, Bill Becker. The award notes that ACED reported $1.7 billion in capital investment and 7,674 new primary jobs during the four years that Mayor Busck has served on the Executive Committee. "Mayor Busck has been an ideal Executive Committee member because of his active participation, his insightful questions, and his quick wit," said Loew, adding, "In spite of the Mayor's busy schedule, he has always been accessible and has always volunteered to help. We sincerely appreciate his support, his enthusiasm, and his leadership."

About Mayor Busck

A native of Long Island, New York, Mayor Busck has been a Thornton resident since 1965, though his history in the Denver area goes back to 1959 when he was stationed at Lowry Air Force Base. He enjoys politics, and served for ten years on the Thornton City Council from 1984 until 1994, when Public Service Company sent him to Pueblo, CO. Busck retired from the Union Power Company after being elected mayor in November 1999, so he could devote his full attention to his City duties.

He has served on a variety of Thornton Boards and Commissions, including the Planning Commission from 1970-1979 and 1981-1983, the 1995 Comprehensive Master Plan Committee, the Charter Review Committee, and as Chairman of the Parks and Open Space Commission since early 1998. Finding different ways to involve residents in local government is a high priority to Mayor Busck.
