People who inspired you (and how): My parents, who were lifelong farmers, are my inspiration. My agricultural roots instilled in me the value of hard work, common sense and helping my neighbors in need.
How you have contributed to the community: I bring extensive experience from my community and elected positions. For almost 18 years, I worked as a Mapleton School Secretary. I worked side-by-side with educators and parents in a shared commitment to public education and improving the lives of our students. After I retired, I served six years in the Colorado House of Representatives followed by six years in the Colorado State Senate. Currently, I am serving my fourth year in my first term as an Adams County Commissioner. Serving as a locally elected official has allowed me to participate in many community issues and offer real solutions to Adams County residents. It is in this capacity that I feel I have been able to influence the most positive change for the community.
What are the biggest issues facing your constituency now: The current economic situation and financial domino effect it has on the personal lives of county residents. While residents ponder who they can trust at the federal level to help calm their fears, at the county level, voters can be assured that the individual taxpayer will continue to be at the heart of every fiscal decision before me. I am committed to bringing new business and primary jobs to strengthen Adams County.
